WHAT IS KINESIOLOGY TAPING?

Kinesiology taping (K-Tape) is a technique used to help with the body’s proprioception and natural healing processes during or following injury.

It is a stretchy, hypoallergenic adhesive tape that is fixed to the skin and helps to provide support and stability to muscles and joints without restricting the body’s range of motion.

K-Tape will usually be attached for around 3-5 days and can be worn during intense exercise, showering, bathing or swimming, and dries quickly with a dab of a towel. It will often be used in conjunction with other manual-therapy interventions to help with your initial treatment, as well as your rehabilitation.

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN SPORTS TAPING AND KINESIOLOGY TAPING?

K-Tape differs from other types of sports tape/strapping in both its structure and function. Sports specific strapping often involves tightly wrapping a non-elastic tape around an injured joint or muscle to provide rigid support and restrict movement. They can only be worn for short periods of time, after which they must be removed to restore movement and circulation.

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF SPORTS TAPING?

Kinesiology tape has been found to have many positive physiological and psychological effects including; alleviating pain by reducing inflammation, re-educating the neuromuscular system, optimising performance, providing dynamic support whilst promoting circulation and healing.
